Parker is a Copywriter

Parker created this poster yesterday, and I noticed he had written a "headline" for it.
"Cars aren't just machines. They're your life."
Perhaps he's also looking into a career as a copywriter?

Tea Party

On Tax Day, tens of thousands of Americans gathered in various cities across the nation to protest the government's wasteful spending-- specifically, this so-called "stimulus" bill that our elected representatives failed to read. Many others also spoke out against the government's seemingly unstoppable appetite for power under the guise of fixing our nation's problems.
Richmond's Tea Party was downtown, where the rain turned Kanawa Plaza into a mud pie.
It didn't stop 4,000 people from standing shoulder to shoulder though.
It was a great event, and very touching to see so many people getting off their couch and fighting the traffic downtown to play an active role in their political lives. There were men, women, and children from varying socio-economic backgrounds and political creeds present. It's a shame the media made light of this event, and that so many others weren't aware of it. But those who are up for re-election next year were paying attention, I'm sure....

Piano Performance

So I've been dying to perform musically lately and I have absolutely no outlet for it. Under the guise of letting all of you hear what my new/very old piano sounds like, here are a few clips. The first one is just some improvised arpeggios, and the next is from "Fantasy in D minor" by Mozart.

Andy's Bachelor Party - Vegas '09

I took a trip to Vegas the first weekend in April for Andy's bachelor party. We played it pretty mellow and did a lot of tourist stuff. I did get to spend some time playing blackjack, roulette, and poker. Andy and I took first and second place (I so let him win) in a poker tournament which put $200 back in my pocket. :) It was great to get back to Vegas again. Yay for vacations!!

Home Improvement

A couple weeks ago I asked Jeremy to build some built-in bookcases, because the little cheap ones we had were totally full.
He spent two full Saturdays and every night for a week hammering, cutting, sneezing from sawdust, and basically making a huge mess.

30 hours, 7 trips to Lowe's, and a couple hundred dollars later, they were finished! Now we have approximately 50% more shelf space than we had before and the whole room looks bigger and brighter. Jeremy did SUCH a great job, even though he had to use a horrible old worn-out saw and found out that our walls are not exactly straight AFTER cutting tons of shelving and overcoming numerous carpentry obstacles. Thanks so much, babe!

VCU CreateAthon 2009

CreateAthon onCampus is a unique opportunity for students to put their skills and talents to use helping local nonprofit organizations. Students in the fields of mass communication, marketing and design partner with faculty members and local professionals to develop and produce materials ranging from identity packages to PR strategies.
There were 12 groups and 12 non-profit agencies. We even had a visit from our client, a non-profit that visits hospitals with therapy dogs to aid patients with healing and reduce stress and anxiety. Her dog was totally adorable!
It's 24 hour blitz of creativity, and we stay on campus the entire time. Someone even brought an air mattress to catch a quick nap if needed. I didn't make it the full 24 hours...after 16 hours in, I headed home. Someone had to take Parker to school! So missed the 3 a.m. dance party. They even had a yoga class and tons of food to keep us going.
Anyway hopefully later I can post the finished product that our team worked on for the Center for Human-Animal Interaction. Here's a video they made last year of the event:

They filmed me and my team a lot for the new video, but it's not available yet. Anyway it was a great experience, and I'm groggy today, but I had a blast.
